Collection: World Music Subcollection: Folk Music Sattuma is a folk music quartet from Petrozavodsk in Russian Karelia. Sattuma is a "family quartet" based on the idea "from the fathers to the children" and also "from the children to the fathers". "Sattuma" means happenstance or chance, but it also means "hit the mark". The program developed long and slowly, somewhere back in the mind, but came about by chance. Within a short time, it brought forth great results within the family circle as well as on stage. Sattuma concerts have been met with great enthusiasm in Russia, USA, and Finland. Sattuma plays 20 different acoustic folk instruments. |

This CD called "Osa poika Onni poika" ("onni poika" means "happy man")was released as a present for 20th anniversary of this interpret's activity.
Apart from the fact that this is his first solo album, Sevets, the interpret himself,
doesn' t find this CD as a top of his many years time work.Masterpieces presented in "happy man" are just a very small part of hiswhole task, which was made by him. Songs have folklore lyrics. Songs are interpreted in Karelic language. Sevets was seeking these songs in songbooks, which were made by Finns. He was setting to music those lyrics, which really impressed him.
The music, which was composed for those songs was composed by Sevetshimself. In some cases, the composer conserved the folklore version ofthose songs. |

Subcollection: Folk Music Folk-Rock, Tuva, throat singing
"GEN-DOS" project is a combination of different styles of throat singing,
ancient Tuvan shamans traditions with modern rock & electronic music.
Gennady Chamzyryn (group leader) is a real hereditary shaman, performs all
styles of the Tuvan throat singing ("sygyt", "khoomei" & "kargyraa").
This exclusive material for the first time after legendary group " Yat-Kha "
in which, the bass player of the project, by the way, played, represents
synthesis of the Tuvian folk music with rock and alternative electronic. The
album is very bright and interesting. There is a lot of guitar, a bass,
keyboard sound in the album & sometimes it comes to the trance-like grooves.
But Tuvan tradition here nevertheless is playing a great part, just like
in art of many overs folk-oriented groups from Tuva. Though the producer of an album Alexander
Medvedev is Russian, he lives and works in Kyzyl (Tuva capital) & makes all he can to represent the modern sound of Tuvan music on the base of it`s deep rooted traditions. We hope that behind album |
