This release is a unique and rare recording of Ralph Vaughan Williams conducting his Serenade to Music from a performance in 1951. It is a deeply expressive and romantic interpretation. The Serenade to Music was commissioned by Sir Henry Wood for his Jubilee Concert to celebrate his 50 years as a conductor. The concert took place on October 5th 1938.
The Serenade to Music is one of the sweetest, most beautiful of all Vaughan William’s works.
Also on this recording are the Pilgrim’s Journey and a bonus disc of Vaughan Williams talking about the teachings of Parry and Stanford and a short extract from the funeral service of Vaughan Williams. This recording has been brilliantly re-mastered by Peter Reynolds.

Judy Garland - The London Studio Recordings 1957-1964

Judy Garland - The London Studio Recordings 1957-1964
ID: FHR12
CDs: 2
Type: CD
Subcollection: Voices and Orchestra

From 1955 through 1964, Judy Garland was one of the most celebrated, acclaimed, and best-selling album artists on the EMI/Capitol roster. On several occasions during those years, she had the opportunity of recording at Abbey Road Studios. This 2CD set assembles her work done there between October 1957 and August 1964. Not only are 12 previously unreleased alternate takes included but, more significantly, a completely unknown/undocumented recording of a song called Please Say 'Ah'! The Mort Lindsey orchestration of this song is complicated and marvellous, the band on top form; Garland and her vocal partner, Saul Chaplin, are having a wonderful time and this great piece of fun, liberally sprinkled with Garland's infectious laugh, demands to be heard! This historic issue is the very first composite compact disc celebration of its kind and a guaranteed collector's item for anyone who appreciates the Great Popular Songbook - and "the World's greatest entertainer."

CDs: 2
Type: CD
Collection: Chamber Music
Subcollection: Violin

Shared Ground is a set of works by the British composer Alec Roth, featuring several poems and sung texts by the Indian writer Vikram Seth. The title piece of the same name is inspired by Seth’s poetry following a decision to buy and live in the Old Rectory in Bemerton - the former home of the 17thcentury poet and priest George Herbert. Other works on the disc expand this idea of a shared home or dwelling, with Earthrise - the reflections of Apollo astronauts on viewing the planet from orbit - and Hymn to Gaia.

To hear the interlocking version of Shared Ground and Ponticelli, programme the tracks in the following sequence: 1 - 7 - 2 - 8 - 3 - 9 - 4 - 0 - 5 - q - 6
