The album «Ymai» is a result of artistic cooperation of some young musicians from the Altai and Khakassia, assisted by famous khakass folk singer and hereditary shamaness Alisa Kyzlasova. Music on his cd is divided compositionally into two equal parts. The first part can be described as an attempt to find inner meaning of the beautiful, rich and ancient musical heritage of Khakass and Altai people made by younger generation of folk musicians, who trying to keep this tradition alive in modern times. Stylistically, this part can be attributed to the world music. The second part consists of some authors and folk songs performed by legendary khakass singer, actress and shamaness Alisa Kyzlasova, whose music inspired this young musicians to start working on this album and who guided them wisely in learning of the traditional performers art. On this disc you can hear the all wide range of khakass folk music - from epic heroic tales with special style of throat singing (khai) accompanied by playing on the khakass cittern (tchatkhan), to modern folk songs on lyrical and domestic themes, which sometimes can be seen strong influence of Russian traditional music. The songs about past and present of khakass and altai land, about love and veneration of nature, about ancient spirits and gods of turk people is played here on a traditional music instruments and bringing the life spirit and energy of one of the most beautyful and sacred places on Earth - Sayan Mountains.

Ensemble Üch Süme-R
Üch Sümer - is the second highest mountain of Russia (its absolute height 4'506m) and situated in the Ust-Koksa aimak (district) of the Altai Republic, which shares international borders with China, Mongolia and Kazakhstan. The Altai Republic is located in the vast Altai mountain range which extends into these three countries and therefore offers a beautiful panorama which extends into these gorgeous mountains. Üch Sümer is also well seen from the Kazakhstan side. This sacred mountain Üch Sümer ("three peaks"), an object of special reference for the indigenous people is also called "Kadyn Bazhy" ("Top of the Katun River") in the Altai language. It is also known as "Belukha" ("white"), a white ice cap covers it and that might explain the origin of the Russian name of the mountain. In the Buddhist legends one can find references to a sacred mountain Sümeru which is located elsewhere unknown in Central Asia but this promised land (also known as Sambhala or Shangri-la) is accessible only for spiritually developed people.

In the name of the ensemble "Üch Süme-R" we have a play of words (the name of the sacred mountain and two more semantic meanings). The words "üch süme" mean "three wisdom" or "three pieces of wisdom", at the same time semantic meanings of the words are "three souls" (="three men") as in the Altai language "süme" also means "soul", "spirit".

The Ensemble Üch-Süme-R (means three peaks) was founded in November 2000 and participated in the International Festival "Delphic Games" 2000 in Moscow and in the International Ethnic Festival "Zhivaya Voda" 2001 in Altyn-Köl (Teletskoye ozero - Golden lake) in Altai.

Theodora Baka (born in Larissa, Greece) has been familiar with the traditional songs of her homeland since she was a child. The singer is accompanied by an unusual formation (’ud, lyre, and zarb) that underscores the songs’ remote, southern timbre. Her versatile voice celebrates in song the old legends and myths of her homeland, laments the lost freedom of a young bride, and converses with a lover. The yearning sound of Baka’s voice is captivating.

In the Bulgarian folk tradition instrumental music performs a specific function - to accompany the horo dances played on Sundays or at public holidays in the village square. Each region in Bulgaria has its own preferences for the specific instruments and characteristic dances. In Dobroudja, for example, the typical horo dances Opas, Sborenka, Ruka, Tropanka, etc. are accompanied on kopanka, gaida (bagpipe), and in more recent times, by three concertina-, kopanka- and bagpipe-players. In the Pirin Mountains region the heavy horo dancing used to be accompanied on tamburas, tarambukas, or zurnas (in the southernmost parts). In Thrace the favourite instrument is the kaval.
