CATALAN STRING QUARTETS - KREUTZER QUARTET

CATALAN STRING QUARTETS - KREUTZER QUARTET
ID: MSVCD92026
CDs: 1
Type: CD
Subcollection: String instruments

While the string quartet is most usually associated with the Germanic traditions, many fine quartets have emanated from a variety of sources in more recent times, and the Catalan area is such. The four quartets recorded here are important becuase they offer a picture of quartet writing outside the main European canon; the four composers are of the generation after the great Roberto Gerhard, who left Spain for Britain in 1939 but whose roots in Catalan music created the cornerstone for this new school of expression.
tracks: Miquel Roger: String Quartet no. 2 (1994) Albert Sarda: String Quartet (1978) Josep Soler: String Quartet no. 1 (1974) String Quartet no. 5 (1995)

The Kreutzer Quartet includes:

MICHAEL FINNISSY - LOST LANDS - TOPOLOGIES

MICHAEL FINNISSY - LOST LANDS - TOPOLOGIES
ID: MSVCD92050
CDs: 1
Type: CD
Collection: Chamber Music
Subcollection: Chamber Ensemble

Michael Finnissy is amongst the most celebrated of contemporary British composers and his music is featured on many of our CDs. This selection of works for chamber group and solo instruments written between 1977 and 1990 displays both his formidable talents and those of Topologies. These pieces are inspired by the disappearing musical cultures in places affected by ethnic cleansing (Kurdestan and Azerbaijan) and "discredited" musical styles such as free jazz and expressionism.

tracks:
Dilok (oboe & percussion) Delal (oboe d'amore & percussion) Kulamen Dilan (soprano sax & percussion) Moon's goin' down (solo oboe) Runnin' wild (solo oboe) Keroiylu (oboe, bassoon & piano) Lost Lands (sax, clarinet, violin, guitar, piano)
