NIGHTINGALES - VASSIL ARNAUDOV - SOFIA CHAMBER CHOIR

NIGHTINGALES - VASSIL ARNAUDOV - SOFIA CHAMBER CHOIR
ID: GD195
CDs: 1
Type: CD
Collection: Choral Collection
Subcollection: Choir

The CD includes 23 songs performed by the female chamber choir founded in 1966 and bearing the name of the great choral conductor Vassil Arnaudov after his death. A number of the songs have been practised and sung many times under his direction and it is in this sense that the CD is of retrospective and commemorative character. The ensemble demonstrates its great scope of repertoire, performing works from the Renaissance, Classicism, and the 20th century. Many of the works have long become emblematic for the choir. The Vassil Arnaudov Sofia Chamber Choir is also deeply connected with the Bulgarian compositional output. Some of the works have been performed for the first time by the choir.

MASTERS OF CLASSICAL MUSIC - Vol. 4

MASTERS OF CLASSICAL MUSIC - Vol. 4
ID: GD256
CDs: 1
Type: CD
Subcollection: Orchestra

Just as in the first three albums, the series MASTERS OF CLASSICAL MUSIC (vol. 1 - GD 245, vol. 2 - GD 246, vol. 3 - GD 247) continues to present composers from different epochs and their ever-loved works. The present programme features pieces written over a vast period of time. Even though each composer represents a different trend in music, they are all united by the eternity of their work. All of them were innovators in music and influenced their followers to a great extent: from the representatives of the Vienna classical school (Mozart and Beethoven), to the author of the first German romantic opera (Weber), the most outstanding comic opera composer (Rossini), up to Elgar, who worked in the beginning of the 19th and the end of the 20th c.

VESSELIN STANEV - PIANO

VESSELIN STANEV - PIANO
ID: GD274
CDs: 1
Type: CD
Collection: Instrumental
Subcollection: Piano

When Vesselin Stanev gave a recital in the Rachmaninov Hall of the Moscow Conservatoire in 2000, the Russian press reviews exclaimed in enthusiasm: "… Remember the name of Vesselin Stanev, he will amaze us in the years to come." (Valentina Torbina, Evening Club, 2000). This review is significant, as the pianist was prizewinner of the P. I. Tchaikovsky International Competition (1982) and a student in Prof. Dmitry Bachkirov's class (1983-1988) at the Moscow Conservatory. The citizens of Moscow also first witnessed the beginning of his career. In the following 12 years Vesselin Stanev specialized with Alexis Weisenberg in Paris and played at a number of prestigious international festivals. He was also soloist at concerts with prominent orchestras like the Bamberg Symphonic Orchestra under Armin Jordan, the Philharmonic Orchestra of Monte Carlo, the Lille Symphony Orchestra, the Youth Orchestra of Paris, etc. He has given successful recitals in most of the important European musical centres and has toured in Japan. He is also a regular participant in Bulgaria's festivals: Varna Summer, Sofia Music Weeks, Apollonia.
Gega New has released up to now three CDs of Vesselin Stanev (GD 111, GD 219, GD 241).

Collection: Instrumental
Subcollection: Piano

Anton Dikov (1938-2004) is one of the most remarkable pianists of our time, who has been recognised both by the audience and the critics as a part of the world music elite. The legendary pianist Emil Gilels noted about him: "Anton Dikov's art does honour to his country, and his performances stand out for their wonderful preparation, freshness, and nobleness of style." Anton Dikov graduated from the Prof. Pancho Vladigerov State Academy of Music in Sofia under Prof. Lyuba Encheva and furthered his studies in France under Nadia Boulanger, Artur Rubinstein and Robert Casadesus. He enjoyed an active international artistic career since 1954 and toured extensively in nearly all European countries, the USA, Latin America, Japan, Korea. He performed with internationally renowned orchestras (Saint Petersburg, Moscow, Paris, Brussels, Prague, etc.). Mr. Dikov was holder of awards of big international piano competitions. A recognition of his art is his participation in the juries of the following international competitions: "Chopin" (Warsaw, 1975, 1990), "Liszt-Bartok" (Budapest, 1976, 1981), Bolzano (1977), "Margueritte Long" (Paris, 1979), "Beethoven" (Vienna, 1985), "Van Cliburn" (Fort Worth, 1985), "Tchaikovsky" (Moscow, 1990), the Bavarian Radio (Munich, 1992), etc. He was a long-standing president of the jury of the International Competition "Prof. Pancho Vladigerov" (Bulgaria). His teaching career was also significant. Since 1988 he was Professor at the Prof. Pancho Vladigerov State Academy of Music. He directed numerous master classes throughout Europe (1996-2002, in Flaine, France annually), in Japan (1983, 1989), in the Republic of Korea (1990-2003, in Seoul annually). His repertoire comprised works from the Baroque period up to contemporary works, as well as a number of premieres of Bulgarian piano music. His extensive recording career includes 15 LPs, an integral edition of Bartok's (released by "Harmonia Mindi"), an integral CD-edition of Beethoven's concertos, a CD-edition of the impressive Concerto for Piano by Dimitar Nenov (Gega New, GD 258), etc. The CD presents his exceptional interpretations of the music of the three eminent composers who were regularly present in his repertoire.

Product Description
With Fidelio, Beethoven found the perfect vehicle to express his lifelong commitment to liberty. The work exposes the reality that at any moment in the world, at any point in history, unjust atrocities are being committed, which can only be prevented by an individual belief in the sanctity of human life and the all-conquering power of universal love. This timeless theme is as relevant today as it was when Beethoven started to write his opera in 1804. Anja Kampe and Torsten Kerl made their Glyndebourne debuts in the roles of Leonore and Florestan in 2006 to rapturous critical praise and this production won the Royal Philharmonic Society Opera Award in 2001.Libretto translated from the original French into English, Italian and German.

Extensive accompanying booklet including a commissioned article about the opera.
