Casa Italia

Casa Italia

Subcollection: Pop

World, Italy, compilation

Whatever our personal definition of contemporary World Music might be, there is a grey area where it blends into popular music. What for one listener is ethnic music - a label often dictated by the language in which the song is sung - for another listener it is familiar native music, evoking home.
Casa Italia is just that, an Italian home, wherever you might hear it, wherever you call home, whenever your thoughts turn to contemporary Italy.

Casa Italia presents an up-to-date musical map of Italy, with leading artists performing music that celebrates the rich and unique palate of distinct cultures of the country's regions.
The expressive voice of Consiglia Licciardi contrasted with plaintive saxophone transports you to the Campania region and the Mediterranean while "Ape Regina" of Andrea Donati puts you at the center of a Milanese jazz club.

The journey includes an exploration of the migrant, rhythmic trails of Naples as interpreted by native artists such as the Avion Travel, Nuova Compagnia di Canto Popolare, Almamegretta and Daniele Sepe.
Fratelli Mancuso guide the listener through the lost paths of Sicily, while the avant-garde Agricantus fuse southern traditions with eastern-influenced trance sounds.

Sardinian guitarist Marino De Rosas presents a touching acoustic portrait of his native island, and Faraualla, the female vocal ensemble of Pulia, creates a polyphonic atmosphere that sounds at once both traditional and futuristic.
Italian bard Vinicio Capossela relates a rock-tinged tarantella.

The collection of contemporary Italian artists blends traditional Mediterranean song-elements with electronica. Its innovative combination of ethnic influences and modern rhythmic styles make the album a must for enthusiasts of Italian culture who are looking for new expressions in music and art.

Casa Italia is a soundtrack to excursions to Italy, whether your excursion is a glass of Chianti in your own home, pasta with friends or simply an imagined view from any room's window.

Audio Remixer: Eraldo Bernocchi. Arranger: Andrea Donati.

ID: ARNR0205
CDs: 1
Type: CD
Subcollection: Pop

With and without the Quartetto Cetra, with and without Lucia Mannucci, the story of Virgilio Savona’s artistic career covers half a century of such ingenious and multifaceted activity that it was with great pleasure and admiration that the Club Tenco chose to dedicate the 2004 Rassegna della canzone d’autore at Sanremo to him.

Virgilio Savona has left his imprint on Italian popular music with a multi-faceted activity and an output of over 300 published songs.

As singer and composer for the famous vocal ensemble, “Quartetto Cetra, he brought innovation to Italian popular music of the 40ies and 50ies, propelling the popular song to new heights in theatre performances and on prime-time television.

As well as developing genres such as parody and children’s songs, in the 70ies he cultivated songs of civil and social commitment, documenting events of his time with a keen artistic eye.
On “Delicate Matters” Virgilio performs previously un-released versions of his music with piano and instrumental ensembles.

World Music, India, Ustad Nishat Khan

Classical Music from Northern India: Ustad Nishat Khan, India's finest among the new generation of sitar players, evokes the very essence and magical spirit of the mythical Mogul court in a unique recording of Raags from the Khan family lineage, a family whose musical tradition has been handed down from father to son for centuries in their native Calcutta.
This recording features internationally acclaimed tabla player Sarvar Sabri and also includes a breathtaking new composition by Ustad Nishat Khan.

It's an ethereal experience to hear this recording for the first time, the latest delight from international sitar star Nishat Khan.
He is an artist who never ceases to surprise and strike awe with his entrepreneurial and individualistic flair; a man who creates new genres that take this beautiful, intricate and ancient instrument to ever more sublime and unimaginable highs. Superlatives cannot describe Nishat's unsurpassed skill; the sitar's very vibe and every essence are his flesh and blood.
Indeed, the instrument's woven history is wrapped around the story of his own family, for Nishat comes from an unbroken dynasty of celebrated classical Indian musicians that trace their origins to the court of India's greatest of rulers: the sixteenth century Mogul Emperor Akbar.

Nishat's musical training came from his father Ustad Imrat Khan. Both his father and his uncle Ustad Vilayat Khan were great sources of inspiration that helped him master his ancestors' style and mould his own distinctive and unique technique.

The Celestine Suite - For Flute and Orchestra - Andrea Ceccomori, flute

The Celestine Suite - For Flute and Orchestra - Andrea Ceccomori, flute
ID: ARNR1098
CDs: 1
Type: CD
Subcollection: Flute

Orchestra da Camera Fiorentina, Conductor: Antonio Rossi

This tribute, inspired by James Redfield's bestseller, The Celestine Prophecy, comprises ten movements featuring Andrea Ceccomori on flute, supported by the Orchestra da Camera Fiorentina.

The beautiful melodies are hauntingly romantic, evoking the intimate and mysterious soul of Gaia.
Lyrical flute lines are delicately woven into warm orchestral textures whose variations flow, soar and spiral until they reach heights of passion and majesty.
A feeling of deep emotional tranquillity pervades, like a stream which tumbles and cascades through virgin forests without ever losing, for a moment, its sense of flow or purpose; as if the little stream already knew the ocean that awaits it.

The energy behind the creation of this work guides us gently back to a compassionate space where we may once again breathe freely in the remembrance of our own primordial nature.

IL CANTO DI MALAVITA - LA MUSICS DELLA MAFIA

IL CANTO DI MALAVITA - LA MUSICS DELLA MAFIA
ID: ARNR0903
CDs: 1
Type: CD
Collection: World Music

format: Digipack with booklet 32 pages

After selling over 150,000 copies abroad, here it is at last in Italy: the controversial "cult" disc of the Mafia's music which traces the origins of the criminal tradition through a repertoire of lyrics from the past that express an old Mafia with a code of honour that no longer exists.

Mimmo Siclari is the scholar and musician who has sought out these old songs of the 'ndrangheta throughout Calabria and has been recording them since the Seventies.
This first volume of the trilogy, SONGS OF THE UNDERWORLD, produced by the Calabrian scholar and photographer, Francesco Sbano, is a collection of eighteen dramatic songs which relate stories of blood, honour and "omertà", showing the old code of the 'ndrangheta and the behaviour of the associates.

This disc is a very important historical document which encourages us to think about the roots of a phenomenon and the current situation in Calabria, as well as being a means of preserving our country's heritage of popular culture.
It also acts as a starting point for reflection upon the phenomenon of the Mafia and of the 'ndranghetta , because it is only by understanding the phenomenon, through to its most secret rites, that we can really free ourselves from it.

"Drink to your friends' health, drink up, because on the 5th December the most trendy and cool cd will be arriving in all the best music stores: "The song of the underworld" or "The music of the Mafia".
It's a real cult disc, produced with an anthropologist's flair by Francesco Sbano and Maximilian Dax: the cd has been a success in Germany and France where it has been on sale since last year and arrives in Italy in perfect time for the next Sanremo Music Festival directed by Tony Renis (...)"
quoted from "Il Foglio" 11/11/2003.

Chöd - Cutting Through Dualism - Chögyal Namkhai Norbu Rinpoche
ID: ARNR0193
CDs: 1
Type: CD
Collection: Traditional

format: Digipack with Booklet 16 pagine Tibet, World Music, Sacred, Ritual

Chögyal Nomkhai Norbu Rimpoche is a master of Dzogchen, one of the great spiritual traditions of Tibet. He was born in eastern Tibet, in Dege, in 1938, and is recognised as the incarnation of Adzam Drugpa, a great Dzogchen master of the last century. He received the full education of a Tulku, or reincarnate Lama, before coming to the west at the invitation of Professor G. Tucci, who invited him to Rome to assist with his research at the Oriental Institute there. Chögyal Namkhai Norbu Rimpoche later became professor of Tibetan and Mongolian studies at the Oriental Institute of the University of Naples. In response to many requests to give spiritual teachings, he has travelled all over the world, and has founded the "Dzogchen Community", an association of his students whose aim is to practice and preserve the Dzogchen teachings. This digital recording was made in the intimate settings of his small personal retreat cabin which is hidden away among overhanging trees below a great rock precipice. On the cliff above the retreat cabin is located the "gompa", or practice hall of Meringar, the base of the "Dzogchen Community" in Tuscany, Italy. It is a rare privilege to be able to participate in the practice of a great Tibetan spiritual master, and the intimate quality of this recording gives the listener the feeling of actually being present with him in his retreat.
