His recording of Bach’s Goldberg Variations (CD 50-2407) was one of Claves most successful albums in recent years. And with the impulse of the first prize that he brilliantly won at the Gina Bachauer International Artists Piano Competition in Salt Lake City (USA) in 2002, Cédric Pescia burst into the ranks of the great st prize that he brilliantly won at the Gina Bachauer International Artists Piano Competition in Salt Lake City (USA) in 2002, Cédric Pescia burst into the ranks of the great pianists. His second album for Claves is scheduled for release this fall and features another of his preferred composers: Schumann. His recording is dazzling and provides testimony to the intelligence of his artistry, in particular with regard to his revolutionary approach to Schumann’s Album for the Young which he performs not as a series of lighter etudes but as a complete cycle. And his intense study of these 42 pieces also led him to choose a different piano than the one he played to record the other works on this album (Papillons, Davidsbündlertänze and the “Ghost Variations”). Claves and Schumann’s complete works for piano solo, volume 2. Born from the efforts of Claves Records and the Clara Haskil Competition in Vevey to renew the spirit of their collaboration (which goes back to 1993 and the first prize won by Austrian marvel Till Fellner), the project of recording all of Schumann’s works for piano solo on six double-albums is directed at highlighting the composer’s use of multiple forms through the interpretation of some of the best prizewinners from the competition. The programmes for each of the albums were shaped by focusing on the particular strengths and preferences of each of the pianists. Released in spring 2006, volume 1 with Irish pianist Finghin Collins (the competition winner in 1999) was met with a wave of accolades and earned some of the most eminent awards from the press (Gramophone’s Editor’s Choice Award, 5 Diapasons, 4 Stars from BBC Music Magazine…). We are certain that volume 2 with pianist Cédric Pescia (chosen for his role as a member of the jury in the competition in 2005) will meet the expectations that this great series has engendered.

This is one of Claves Records' greatest adventures since it was founded 40 years ago. Robert Schumann's complete piano works in six double albums is a huge artistic challenge, comparable to that of Beethoven's complete works for piano solo on historical instruments in the '90s (CD 50-9707-10). Furthermore, there are not one but three pianists this time: Ireland's Finghin Collins and Switzerland's Cédric Pescia and Francesco Piemontesi. The first two volumes, issued in 2006, were a fabulous success. Finghinn Collins was honoured with Gramophone magazine's Editor's Choice for Volume I (CD 50-2601/02), and confidently went back to Berlin last autumn to record six new masterpieces with Johannes Kammann: apart from Schumann's virtuoso Abegg Variations op. 1, Volume III includes the Intermezzi op. 4, Etudes symphoniques op. 13, Nachtstücke op. 23, Carnaval de Vienne op. 26 and Bunte Blätter op. 99. Our first meeting with the Irish pianist dates from 1999 when he brilliantly won the Clara Haskil Competition in Vevey, an encounter that led to a first Mozart-Beethoven CD with the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne and Emmanuel Krivine (CD 50-9910) - ten years on, Finghinn Collins is just as true to himself: ever capable of roaring like thunder or blowing gentle tenderness. And with that little extra something which makes all the difference, charm.

This box set consists of the complete Well-tempered Clavier series by J.S. Bach, performed by Jill Crossland. Colloquially known as the “48” from the two books of twenty-four preludes and fugues, these works form one of the great landmarks of keyboard repertoire.

In Jill Crossland’s own words, ‘No other music is so perfect an integration of emotional expression and intellectual rigour’. Jill first performed the complete Well-tempered Clavier from memory as a student in Manchester.

Canadian violinist Corey Cerovsek has not built his career on the risky chances of the star system. Endowed with the refined discretion typical of great artists, he focuses his efforts on his art and is content with the rewards that it brings him in daily life. A student of the great Josef Gingold at Indiana University, Corey Cerovsek follows in the tradition of Belgium violinist Eugène Ysaÿe, in particular with regard to the matchless quality of his “beautiful tone”. Claves Records is pleased to be able to proclaim his immense talents in the form of this unique recording: Beethoven’s 10 Sonatas for piano and violin on 3 CDs, recorded at the Salle de Musique in La Chaux-de-Fonds on the “Millanolo” Stradivarius of 1728 (once Christian Ferras’ instrument) with the faultless assistance of Finnish pianist Paavali Jumppanen. A luxurious box with a 96-page booklet provide the crowning touch to this matchless edition. Representative of the violinist himself - did you know? - in addition to his enormous talents as a musician he is also a remarkable mathematician and computer programmer… to the degree to which his concert schedule allows him.
