This recording is the first volume of the complete harpsychord works composed by Paradisi in London in 1754.

"From a harmonic, melodic and rhythmic point of view, these sonatas demonstrate the strong influence the Neapolitan School had on his style.
As is well known, this school produced not only important composers of operas, but also prominent harpsichordists. These are scholarly, refined masterpieces of considerable technical mastery demonstrating a real sense of the instrument's tone as well as a profound understanding of the instrument's sound quality.
In particular, the first movement of the Sonata I (Allegro) has a tripartite structure and monothematic form, which is clearly organized, coherent, well balanced and efficient. As is also true of the sonatas that follow, the rhythm - both pulsating and harmonic, the structure of the melody, the tonal connections and the cadence, constantly accompany and intensify the elegant phrasing. The piece is brilliant, even though cantabile and not immune to stylistic influences either of opera or typically instrumental music. The later bring to mind Alessandro Scarlatti's toccata-style works, the sonatas of his son, Domenico and other Neapolitan composers such as Francesco Durante and Nicola Porpora. As expected and as can be verified in the compositions that follow, the use of particular tonal effects is especially efficacious thanks to the attentive distribution of the parts, a varied and interesting texture and a spacing and articulation of the notes perfectly suited to the expressive capabilities of the harpsichord. All of which is integrated in a refined and sophisticated concept of the technique for keyboard instruments."

In French they're called Berceuse, in German, Wiegenlied, in English Lullaby, in Italian Ninnananna.
The oldest example included in this recording "Le Dodo ou L'amour au berceau" is a piece which could easily belong to the prehistory of the genre and it's taken from the Fifteenth Ordre for harpsichord by François Couperin. Published in 1722, this piece uses the same lullaby melody that lies at the heart of Debussy's "Jardin sous la pluie" almost two hundred years later. The CD explores the history of the berceuse genre: proceeding in chronological order, we encounter the beautiful pieces by Chopin (who, by writing his Berceuse in 1844, did, in fact, invent a genre), Schumann, von Henselt, Liszt, Raff, Alkan, Brahms/Cortot, Grieg, Cˇajkovskij/Rachmaninov, Feruccio Busoni, Sibelius, Balakirev, Debussy. The collection of berceuses presented in this CD ( of course incomplete) is concluding with the Vingt regards sur l'Enfant-Jésus by Olivier Messiaen.

Guitar 'Luis Arban 1976' - 'Luciano Lovadina 1995'

This live recording of the very well known Concierto de Aranjuez by Joaquín Rodrigo is very well performed by the talented Italian guitarist Giulio Tampalini and the Arturo Benedetti Orchestra of the International Festival, conducted by Piercarlo Orizio. Tampalini is therefore playing some pieces which are for sure the most recorded ones in the music history; they are true classical works which have become an obligatory entry in every repertoire by the most talented guitarists.
The Concierto de Aranjuez is certainly one of the most famous concerts of the 20th century. Written in Paris in 1939, Rodrigo literally carried it in his suitcase when he returned to his home country immediately following the Spanish civil war, that terrible and bloody conflict which had such an impact on Spain that its effects lasted for at least another 30 years.
The Concierto is one of those rare classical music compositions that has enjoyed popular success immediately from its first execution (November 9th, 1940 at the Palau de la Mésica Catalana in Barcelona).
An Opera felix then, born under the best auspices. Much the same as the life of its creator, all considered, who lived a long, almost centenarian life under the sign of belleza y felicidad, blessed with endless honours and successes, surrounded by a sincere and loving family and the affection of friends. The Concierto is coupled with a few pieces of music for solo guitar, which are part of another, more intimate, surely less well-known side of this composer from Sagunto, offering the audience a second perspective. For sure this fortunate piece has become an obligatory entry in the guitarist repertoire.

2005 Van Cliburn Piano Competition Finalist

Ignacio Cervantes Kawanagh (Havana, 1847-1905) is not quite known outside the American continent. Only occasionally a Dance of his will show up in a concert program or within a recording, though he was a significant figure of his times - times of change and inspired by revolutionary ideals in politics and art. From the point of view of the history of music, his importance is justly attributed to the "creole-ization" of Cuban music - or rather a fusion of styles, that show the local patrimony at its best by melding it with external influences, in constant tension by searching for a new identity (we could call it a type world music ante litteram). However destiny would have him be more than just an enfant prodige. It also led him to be twenty years old in '68 - a date that has the power of overturning the status quo even in other centuries and at other latitudes. Encouraged by the American composer Louis Moreau Gottschalk (from whom a second surname) to study at the Paris Conservatory, one of the best at that time. There he worked with highly respected musicians such as Antoine François Marmontel and Charles-Valentin Alkan, studying composition and harmony and graduating with brilliant results. In his career he played with many artists, but especially two merit mentioning: the Swedish Christina Nilsson and our own Adelina Patti, both famous singers, and rivals. As concert musician and virtuoso he travelled around the world, even for a noble cause: raising funds for the war for independence from Spain that began in '68 with the War de los Diez Años (1868-1878), the first of three wars for independence.
The Danzas surely represent his masterpiece. They are presented here for the first time as complete recording, splendidly performed by Davide Cabassi.
The introduction on the booklet has been written by the well-known Cuban musicologist José Ruiz Elcoro. For the first time a pianist of international projection , not a native Cuban, assumes such an undertaking by doing it brilliantly and with high interpretative sensibility and extraordinary technique. This book Cervantes 40 Danzas Cubanas by Publications De Blanck even revealed various unknown works.
A climatic moment in this CD production is the participation of the Russian pianist Tatiana Larionova, joining Cabassi. Together they solve with absolute cohesiveness, all the rhythmic labyrinths, seemingly simple, of the Three dances for four hands: (*) Los Delirios de Rosita, La Camagüeyana y Muñecos.

Already four years ago, Concerto published an album dedicated to that artist who has been referred to, without any exaggeration, as the Paganini of the double bass. That album might be dubbed exploratory, and featured by the same extraordinary performing artists. Now a second, definitive album is being published, an album which will enrich our knowledge of works for double bass and violin by the composer from Crema. Although his reputation as a virtuoso in the Mephistophelean, Paganinian or Listzian sense dominates the period's iconography, and for that matter even the memories of those of us who have come after, in reality Bottesini was the consummate composer. He was eclectic, versatile, one who proffered - sparingly - to write melodramas, but one who also assiduously cultivated other types of music: sacred music, an orchestral genre similar to a "poema sinfonico" and, above all, all types of chamber music with a significant corpus of quartets and quintets. Naturally he wrote numerous pieces of chamber music featuring his instrument. And, as is well known, he revolutionized both technique and tone of the double bass. They are astounding pieces for the fact that, expressively, they are very balanced, holding many very different aspects together: virtuosity (naturally since he was the greatest virtuoso of the double bass of all times), a deeply rooted melodic vein, the typically romantic tone then prevalent, and even a structural thought, a kind of formal structure. Balance and poetry that you would not expect in a performer, who captivated crowds (and royalty) soliciting emotions and fainting, similar to what happens in today's rock concerts.
Great performance by Francesco Siragusa who in 1997 was selected by Maestro Riccardo Muti to enter "Orchestra Filarmonica della Scala" and "Orchestra del Teatro alla Scala" in Milan, where he currently works.
His performances are enthusiastically welcomed everywhere, thanks to his extraordinary temperament and the unique voice he obtains from his double bass.
