Mozartiana - Works for cello & fortepiano

Mozartiana - Works for cello & fortepiano
ID: CC1011
CDs: 1
Type: CD
Collection: Instrumental
Subcollection: Piano and Cello

The works on this recording reflect the richness of the cello repertoire from the late 18th and early 19th Centuries.

Mozart's unfinished Sonata movement in B flat is here, having been completed by Annette Isserlis. The disc also includes works by Mozarts's pupils: J N Hummel's "Variations à la Monférine" Op.54 and Wölfl's Sonata in D Op. 31 are both beautifully crafted and make virtuoso demands on the performers. Together with the exquisite Mozart inspired sonata by Hélène Liebmann, this is a CD of exhilarating and unjustly neglected masterpieces.

Cello Classics' founder Sebastian Comberti and fortepianist Maggie Cole play on instruments of the period, bringing these works to light in all their true colours.

The guitar has always been the outstanding vehicle for Latin American music. Some composers stand out as exceptional and Astor Piazzolla is certainly Argentina’s most celebrated composer. The Five Pieces were written for Roberto Aussel and this is the definitive recording of his most important work for the guitar.

Roberto Aussel is Argentina’s most famous guitarist. His reputation as a leading figure in the guitar scene was cemented in 1980 when Astor Piazzolla composed and dedicated his ‘Five pieces’ to the young virtuoso.

REPERTOIRE Astor Piazzolla: Universally regarded as the most important exponent of the New Tango. Atahualpa Yupanqui: was without doubt the greatest exponent of Argentinean folk music. 3 Guitars:solos for Vihuela, baroque and Classic Guitar

3 Guitars:solos for Vihuela,baroque and Classic Guitar
ID: CLS0201
CDs: 1
Type: CD
Collection: Instrumental
Subcollection: Guitar

3 Guitars, presented and performed by David Rogers, features three different eras of guitar music and historical instruments. The sixteenth-century vihuela is featured in the improvisational and sometimes Moorish-inspired music of Renaissance Valencia's Luis Milan. The five-course Baroque guitar is featured in the courtly French dance music of Louis IV's Versailles, represented by the works of Francisco Corbetta and Robert De Visee. A mid-nineteenth century guitar is featured in the classical music of Fernando Sor, in later works by Paraguayan Agustin Barrios Mangore, and in contemporary setting of the traditional African-American spiritual, "There Is A Balm In Gilead". Having Rogers perform these works on the instruments they were intended for and created upon heightens the interpretive and expressive power of the music and gives the performer an inner view of the intentions of each composer.

David Rogers Vihuela after various XVI century models Baroque guitar after Stradivari (1680) Classic guitar after Rene Lacote (c.1840). This CD features a Multimedia Booklet (PC / Mac Compatible) including all the scores.

Wilde plays Brahms

Wilde plays Brahms
ID: DCD34040
CDs: 1
Type: CD
Collection: Instrumental
Subcollection: Piano

"David Wilde's power and individuality make a separation between composer and performer, between creator and recreator unrealistic. He sees the simple grace and lyricism favoured by many pianists as an evasion of a deeper poetic truth, and if he gives us all of Brahms' exulting strength in the fugue from the 'Handel' Variations, he is no less responsive to darker nights of the soul in Op. 117. Always there is an open invitation to re-appraise Brahms' genius, not by a radical reinterpretation (the determinedly 'different' way of, say, Gould or Pogorelich), but by a probing and enquiring look beneath the music's surface life. David Wilde may be true to the composer, but he is a pianist to make you think again." Bryce Morrison

"One of the most intense and involving performances that I've heard" International Record Review on David Wilde on Delphian
