Wilhelm Müller (October 7, 1794 - September 30, 1827) was a German lyric poet.

This unusual interpretation of Winterreise is a skeleton where the text and music are taken back to the essence of the work. Dombrowski writes It is bold and direct, present, and at the same time fragile, an approach to the poetry that can hardly be more honest. Nataaa Mirkovi De Ro is a singer and actress from Bosnia with a predilection for unusual projects.

Balbastre - Korneel Bernolet - Pieces de clavecin,(harpsichord) Premier Livre, 1759

Type: SACD
Collection: Classical Period
Subcollection: Harpsichord

In a fully authentic performance, brought to life with modern flair, Belgian harpsichordist Korneel Bernolet gives an incredible recital of seventeen compositions by eighteenth century composer, Claude-Benigne Balbastre.

In a performance fittingly given by one of Europe's top harpsichord specialists, the works of Claude-Benigne Balbastre, a household name during his time, are played with full flair and colour. Available in up to Studio Master format, these rare recordings are now available in such high quality, that listening to them is barely distinguishable from witnessing their performance.

Claude-Bénigne Balbastre enjoyed a very distinguished reputation as a harpsichordist, fortepianist and organist in eighteenth-century France. Born in Dijon in 1724, in his early years he most likely took music lessons from his good friend Claude Rameau, brother of the more famous Jean-Philippe, with whom Balbastre was later to study composition.

Balbastre’s royal and aristocratic connections were to prove an embarrassment during the French Revolution. He managed to save both his own skin and the organ of Notre-Dame by playing militant atheist songs and folk music in the renamed Temple de la Raison, including his own arrangement of the Marseillaise. This was however in the end not enough to prevent him losing his position and his pension. He died in penury in 1799.

Balbastre’s Pieces de Clavecin from 1759 are influenced on the one hand by his royal and aristocratic patrons, and on the other by his contacts among the bourgeoisie, finding a stylistic balance between the two social classes. All the movements are character pieces dedicated either to members of the nobility, or to artists or other highly-placed individuals from the Parisian upper middle classes. The elevated style of French noblesse and grandeur are mirrored in the opening numbers.

Wilhelm Müller (October 7, 1794 - September 30, 1827) was a German lyric poet.

Schubert sits at the piano in the circle of his friends, and it may well be that this company of authors, artists, and other illustrious personalities is listening to the songs of the “Schoene Muellerin” being sung by Johann Michael Vogl, Schubert’s favorite singer. In his drawing, Moritz von Schwind affords us a glance into the convivial atmosphere of the Schubertiades at which some of Schubert’s works may first have been heard.
The song cycle tells of an unrequited love for the beautiful maid of the mill. The mill stream is the constant companion and dialogue partner of the unhappy journeyman miller, who at the end finds his final resting place in the shallow waters of the creek.
In addition to concerts and opera, Hans Jörg Mammel has made a name for himself above all through his interpretations of the songs of Schubert and the composers of the second Berlin school. He is accompanied in this intimate interpretation by Arthur Schoonderwoerd, one of the most prominent fortepiano players of our time.
