With and without the Quartetto Cetra, with and without Lucia Mannucci, the story of Virgilio Savona’s artistic career covers half a century of such ingenious and multifaceted activity that it was with great pleasure and admiration that the Club Tenco chose to dedicate the 2004 Rassegna della canzone d’autore at Sanremo to him. Virgilio Savona has left his imprint on Italian popular music with a multi-faceted activity and an output of over 300 published songs. As singer and composer for the famous vocal ensemble, “Quartetto Cetra, he brought innovation to Italian popular music of the 40ies and 50ies, propelling the popular song to new heights in theatre performances and on prime-time television. As well as developing genres such as parody and children’s songs, in the 70ies he cultivated songs of civil and social commitment, documenting events of his time with a keen artistic eye. On “Delicate Matters” Virgilio performs previously un-released versions of his music with piano and instrumental ensembles.
