These are sprirted and beautifully paced performances, with breathtaking wind solos and phenomenally precise string playing. This SA-CD happens to be the best of the PentaTones sonically - the listener is positioned close to the orchestra, and there’s excellent front-to-back layering of the musicians. There is also a subtle hint of the room behind you that contributes to you-are-there sort of audio experience. If sound is a priority and you want to sample a single PentaTone, this is one to get.”
---Andrew Quint, Fanfare (May/June 2003)
“As is typical for these recordings, the conducting is very fine with a generally light and sprightly touch or feeling, nothing ponderous here. The orchestra responds in kind as does the excellent recording though it seems here to be a touch on the light and bright side of neutral, which may be a characteristic of the recording site of Brent Town Hall in London's Wembley area.”

“Listening to this SA-CD in stereo mode only, I find the textures in any of the groups of instruments to be significantly more transparent; the record sounds just that much more veiled now. There is a continuum in the sound stage that was missing from the LP as I now hear it. The LP has more of a left/right presentation as if a wall were placed between each half of the orchestra, but there IS slightly more depth perceived on it.”
