Wenn sich Schneeflöckchen leise rieselnd ans Fenster setzt, die Glocken süß erklingen und am Baum die Lichter brennen, dann ist - so verheißen es die Lieder - Weihnachten. Üblicherweise hören wir Weihnachtslieder als Klangkulisse auf dem Weihnachtsmarkt oder in der Schnäppchen-Ecke im Kaufhaus. Verkaufsstrategie ist hier: weichgespülte Melodie. Doch spätestens am Nikolaustag haben wir diese Hintergrundsmusik satt.
Auf der Raumklang-CD „Engelslicht und Dornenschatten“ mit neunzehn ausgewählten Weihnachtsliedern kann und muss man hinhören. Die zum Teil altbekannten Lieder kommen uns dabei merkwürdig neu zu Ohren. Indem Christine Maria Rembeck ihnen nachlauscht, die Melodie nur in kleinen Nuancen verändert, einzelne Textpassagen herausgreift und sie durch ihre eigene Klavierbegleitung neu interpretiert. Engelsgleich berührt uns der Gesang Christine Maria Rembecks, eingebettet in das breite Klangsprektrum des Klaviers und ergänzt durch die warmen Celloklänge Emilia Gliozzis.

Subcollection: ChoirDie Motetten gehören zu den raffiniertesten Werken Johann Sebastian Bachs. Um dem anspruchsvollen, virtuosen Stil der Motetten Rechnung zu tragen, besetzte Trinity Baroque unter der Leitung von Julian Podger jede Stimme solistisch. Dadurch erscheint die polyphone Kompositionsweise der Motetten in dieser Aufnahme filigran, durchsichtig und klanggewaltig zugleich.
Das Ensemble Trinity Baroque begab sich nach Sachsen-Anhalt, um die Bach'schen Motetten aufzunehmen - in die Kirche St. Wenzel zu Naumburg. Dort weihte Johann Sebastian Bach 1746 die Hildebrandt-Orgel und überwachte später auch die Instandhaltung des Instrumentes. Der historische Ort inspirierte Trinity Baroque zu einer weiteren Idee. Neben der solistischen Interpretation der Stimmen wird die Basslinie durch eben diese Bachorgel (und eine Violone) klanglich herausgehoben - der deutlich wahrnehmbare Ton der Orgel fügt sich in das Klanggeflecht der Vokalstimmen harmonisch ein und verleiht dieser Aufnahme einen einzigartigen Charakter. |

Subcollection: Chamber EnsembleThe recording is entirely devoted to French Baroque composer Jean-Féry Rebel and comprises some of his most admirable ballet music, along with the enigmatic suite Les Elemens.
The orchestra was awarded two Opus Prizes in January 2007 (voted by the Conseil québécois de la musique) for this program, which was featured in Arion’s 2006 activities. One Prize was for the ‘Concert of the Year in Montreal’ and the other for the ‘Concert of the Year, Music of the Middle Ages, the Renaissance and the Baroque eras’.
