Modest Musorgsky - Pictures at an Exhibition -IVO VARBANOV, piano

Modest Musorgsky - Pictures at an Exhibition -IVO VARBANOV, piano
ID: GD117
CDs: 1
Type: CD
Collection: Instrumental
Subcollection: Piano

Since the age of nine, Ivo Varbanov (b. 1972) has been living and performing mainly abroad, in Milan and London, at The Royal Academy of Music, where he specialised on a grant by the Rotary Foundation (USA). He has given concerts in many countries throughout Europe. For his Bulgarian CD the pianist has chosen various pieces of Mussorgsky, as well as his masterpiece Pictures at an Exhibition. This work not only poses to the performer various difficulties with respect to technique and interpretation, but it requires a truthful rendition of the great Russian composer's unique style, a thorough understanding of the work's rich and vivid imagery, together with an ability to construct a monumental cycle serving as points of support to the overall structure. The listener will feel the scope of Varbanov's performance who is beyond doubt a talented pianist with brilliant technique who has probed deeply in Mussorgsky's style.

Mussorgsky: Gnomus; Il vecchio castello; (Dispute d`enfants après jeux); Ballet of the Unhatched Chicks; Samuel Goldenberg und Schmuÿle

CONTEMPORARY BULGARIAN PIANO MUSIC

CONTEMPORARY BULGARIAN PIANO MUSIC
ID: GD170
CDs: 1
Type: CD
Collection: Instrumental

The CD brings together five Bulgarian composers who represent the generation of the 1980s and 90s of the 20th century. What unites them is their aesthetic taste, their attitude towards reality and their manner of composing, related to techniques and compositional thinking of the end of this century. All of them, with the exception of Georgi Arnaoudov, live and work abroad, but their varied interests always have a common crossing point called Bulgaria, where their works enjoy recognition and popular acclaim. Impressions from Spain, in Alexander Kandov's "Las mariposas nocturnas", from the Caucasus Mountains in Bojidar Spassov's "Wasserfalle", the search of new style in "Klavierstuk I" by Marin Goleminov (son of the great Bulgarian composer Marin Goleminov), "Incarnation dans la lumiere" by Georgi Arnaoudov, and "Preludium II" by Boyan Vodenicharov illustrate the authors as sensitive, original creative artists, looking for the connection between past and present and casting a glance towards the future. The name of Alexander Strukov means a brilliant virtuosity, perfect technique, the sound of the Konstantin Igumnov school - soft, singing, and deep. His performers’ conceptions are always thought over, and the musical forms are well-balanced. His bright temperament is controlled by a powerful intellect; he's got a great erudition. This is what has always enraptured me in Alexander Strukov's performances. I remember him as a young man who had just entered the Moscow Conservatory (in 1983); before that, he studied with Evgeni Timakin, a pupil of Konstantin Igumnov, an outstanding musician and the Central Music School professor. He also studied with the wonderful Lev Vlassenko, the unforgettable musician and my friend; Alexander took his teacher's perfect taste and artistry. This allowed him to repeat Lev Vlassenko's success, winning Ferenc Liszt International piano competition in Budapest (1991). Alexander gives lots of concerts in Germany, Italy, Czech Republic, Hungary, Switzerland, Japan and other countries. He had played with many eminent conductors, among them - Vladimir Ziva, Veronika Dudarova, Pavel Yadykh, Andras Ligeti, Roland Bader, Gianmario Cavallaro, Mikhail Pletnev and others. He gives a lot of master classes in Russia and abroad. Alexander Strukov is also a fine composer. He is the author of two piano concertos, piano quintet, other chamber and piano works. In 2006 he won the Moscow Conservatory competition for the best cadenza to a Mozart concerto. One of his cadenzas - to the third movement of the Piano concerto no. 21 - I have recorded on a CD; I am also going to perform his cadenzas to the Sixth Concerto. Professor Vlassenko invited the young laureate to become his assistant at the Moscow Conservatory. Since 2004, he works as my assistant. At present, he has got his own class and a rank of an assistant professor. I greatly appreciate his skills as a pianist and pedagogue; the students admire him, he plays wonderfully, and I am proud that he became a member of our "Konstantin Igumnov" department

W. A. Mozart: Concertos for Two Pianos and Orchestra KV 356 & KV 242 - Piano Duo Anna & Ines Walachowski

W. A. Mozart: Concertos for Two Pianos and Orchestra KV 356 & KV 242 - Piano Duo Anna & Ines Walachowski
ID: OC566
CDs: 1
Type: CD
Subcollection: Piano
