F-Sharp Tonalities: A Bridge Between Worlds
Nestled within the circle of fifths, F-Sharp Major and F-Sharp Minor occupy a unique geographical and symbolic position. Starting from the diatonic clarity of C Major, F-Sharp emerges as a point of chromatic richness-a tonal world that bridges the simplicity of familiar harmonies and the intricate complexity of less conventional ones. This placement symbolizes a journey: a departure from the center of tonal gravity into realms that challenge and expand our perceptions. In this sense, F-Sharp Major and minor embody transitions, thresholds where opposites converge-human and divine, earthly struggle and celestial resolution. These tonalities are not mere abstractions but reflections of life's dualities-pain and joy, despair and redemption. In this album, these tonalities guide listeners through an interwoven journey of human emotion and spiritual exploration. Beethoven and Schumann anchor the narrative with their explorations of passion, vulnerability, and triumph, embodying the deeply personal struggles of existence. Bach and Scriabin, in turn, transcend the earthly, inviting us to experience the sublime-whether through the meditative intensity of Bach’s Toccata or the rapturous ascension of Scriabin’s Sonata No. 4. Together, they illustrate the profound symbolism of F-Sharp tonalities: a bridge between diatonic clarity and chromatic wonder, simplicity and complexity, humanity and the infinite.

This album presents works by two great Romantic composers - Schumann and Scriabin - from different centuries but united by the depth and intensity of their musical expression. Schumann represents the mature stage of Romanticism, while Scriabin takes it to its ecstatic, visionary limits on the threshold of the twentieth century.
Their music is not merely aesthetic; it is a form of spiritual service. To bring their works together in a single program allows us to hear anew the vast emotional and philosophical range of Romanticism - from Schumann’s lyrical idealism to Scriabin’s mystical exaltation.

They were contemporaries and friends, yet their musical languages are two entirely different universes. Rachmaninov remained faithful to classical forms, a rich pianistic texture, and sweeping lyricism, while Scriabin from the very beginning sought a path inward - through the subtlest inflection, the finest gradations of half-tones, and the very breath of silence. The miniatures of early Scriabin, especially the preludes inspired by Chopin and Schumann, are filled with intimate, fragile poetry.
And yet, despite their differences, the music of Rachmaninov and Scriabin is united by the spirit of late Romanticism, by the longing for a departing era, and by the sense of ultimate expressiveness.
For pianist and composer Alexey Chernov, this program is not merely a meeting with two great names, but a personal dialogue with archetypes. He appears not so much as a performer but as an interpreter, building his own path between these worlds - from the preludes to the great sonata, and finally to a “meta-transcription,” in which the Romantic past becomes a memory.
