Kolekce: Orchestral WorksPodkolekce: Orchestr National Polish Symphony Orchestra conducted by Slawek Wroblewski (2 -5), Gabriel Chmura (1), and Zygmunt Rychert (6).
This CD commemorates the fact that this great unknown romantic master died one hundred years ago. The Polish conductor, teacher and composer Noskowski was a leading figure in the impressive Polish music scene around 1900, working alongside such people as Paderewski, Scharwenka, and Moszkowski. These works show that also as a composer, he could measure up to his contemporaries!
Morskie oko is not unfamiliar. From a very mysterious beginning the music rises to a most beautiful climax depicting the famous cliff in Poland -with this name. The symphony is traditional in style blending the big romantic tradition from Schumann, Brahms with a tinge of Polish folk music. The second movement is an experience beyond most. A truly romantic slow movement that will bring tears to all romantic eyes... |

Kolekce: Romantická hudbaPodkolekce: Orchestr Here is a completely individual Swiss romantic who also worked as a doctor. The music is on the verge of Romantic music. The first symphony is idyllic in character, while the second is much more dramatic with a beautiful crafted little scherzo. The first movement seems inspired of the Swiss cuckoo clock. This thematic idea runs through most of the symphony. Those who enjoy music by Butterworth and contemporary composers will enjoy this release. |

Kolekce: Orchestral WorksPodkolekce: Orchestr Gouvy was more concerned with balance, moderation and good taste than in operatic glamour that would doubtless have brought him fame and fortune. But, as he came from a wealthy family, he never had to accept artistic compromise in order to survive, and was thus able to compose in the idiom that interested him most, even if it seems an unpopular one. Even the hard-to-please Hector Berlioz expressed with surprise “…that a composer of his importance should still be so little known in Paris…”
Born into a French family with its roots in Belgium, he was German by nationality and could not attend the Paris Conservatorie. He took private lessons and became a respected pianist, but far from the virtuosos in the music salons. The music he composed was far from fashion and might not have brought him acclaim in France, but it did earn him respect from his colleagues. |

Kolekce: World Premiere RecordingPodkolekce: Orchestr Paul Dukas' oeuvre as a composer has always been very small, due to his (overly?) self-critical approach. The Symphony in C minor was a piece the composer cherished nonetheless. Here it is augmented by two great overtures he wrote in his student days, both modeled on examples from famous literature, by Goethe and Shakespeare. Both are world premiere recordings. This is a release that makes you regret that Dukas destroyed so many of his own works. |

Kolekce: World Premiere RecordingPodkolekce: Orchestr Jakob Adolf Hägg: Nordic Symphony, Overtures, American Festival Music. Gävleborg Symphony Orchestra conducted by Mats Liljefors and Göran W. Nilson
An extremely gifted composer, who started as a radical but ended a long life as a refined classicist. The overtures are slightly influenced by Swedish folk-music. |

Kolekce: World Premiere RecordingPodkolekce: Orchestr Wilhelm Peterson-Berger (1867-1942): Symphony No. 1 in B flat major, "Baneret" & Symphony No. 5 in B minor, "Solitudo". Kungliga Hovkapellet conducted by Leif Segerstam.
The subtitle of Symphony no. 1 may indicate a big, glorious work, but these two symphonies by Peterson-Berger should be noted for their surprisingly delicate and skilful writing full of poignant nuances. No. 5 shows the quiet reflectiveness and nostalgia of the mature composer. |

Podkolekce: Orchestr 1 - 4 Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra conducted by Leif Segerstam
5 - Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra conducted by Janso Fürst
Rangström's very famous First Symphony, in a performance of absolute authenticity. Rangström's writing is typical of the composer and reveals his dark and dramatic personality. |

Podkolekce: Orchestr Some LP transfers and also some newly recorded overtures. They are really delightful, not the least the two pieces by Berwald, both recorded for the first time.

Kolekce: World Premiere RecordingPodkolekce: Orchestr Stenhammar´s noble, individual style never fails. The reason why these works are never heard is that they were written as incidental music to plays performed at the Lorensberg Theatre in Gothenburg. 'A Dream Play' and 'Romeo and Juliet' have been assembled into concert suites by Hilding Rosenberg, who retained the beautiful shifts of mood in the score to 'A Dream Play', especially the sweeping. Sibelian orchestral tutti at the end.
As you like it; A dream play (arr. Hilding Rosenberg); Romeo and Juliet (arr. Hilding Rosenberg). |
