The group Ocarina Ensemble is a new born ocarina group in Budrio. They perform traditional italian music on typical instruments made by the Budrio maker Fabio Menaglio.
THE OCARINA is a globular flute, the origins of which can be traced back in time when masks, as well as seashells and tubular trumpets, were used to modify the voice. Spreading to all cultures practically all over the world, globular flutes soon became proper musical instruments with a whistle insufflator and finger holes. First they were carved out of gourds and pods or made out of eggshells, subsequently they were moulded out of clay, usually in zoomorphic or anthropomorphic shapes, so as to emphasize their descendence from masks and their former ritual and magical functions. |

Collection: Chamber Music Subcollection: Chamber Ensemble Four concerts at 2009’s Edinburgh International Festival offered us a great opportunity to draw on our repertoire of the last 17 years, and to invite a few special guests to add some new discoveries along the way. This CD presents a selection of favourite moments from those evenings at the Hub, showing just some of the fun that we had there; everything you hear on this recording happened on stage in the shows (except the gun going off in the Tattoo at the Castle next door) … It's guaranteed live, and all the better for it!

Mr McFall's Chamber
'Marra's music has broad horizons. His songs' subjects roam across Mull and Shetland, over the Canadian prairies, to Schenectady, New York home of swing-era jazz broadcasting and down into Mexico. But his muse is governed by sound Dundonian principles, including the futility of going in the huff and the folly of vanity.'
- The Herald, May 2010
‘Mr McFall's chamber are the jewel in the Scottish musical crown, continually pushing the envelope of repertoire and style.''
- The Scotsman, June 2010

Collection: Classical Period Concerto Caledonia
A chamber-scale Concerto Caledonia bring to life a key figure from the Golden Age of Scottish fiddle music,
when the publishing of fiddle music books was in full spate and the familiar forms of strathspey, reel and jig were taking shape.
'Red Rob' Mackintosh, named in the customary Gaelic fashion after the colour of his hair, found himself a place in the orchestra of the Edinburgh Musical Society and set up business as a teacher. (1783) was his first collection, published the year before his ill-fated move to Aberdeen, and it represents his desire both to understand the musical world around him as fully as possible, and to forge himself a career within it. Concerto Caledonia have realised the music from within its pages, shedding light on an age when, not yet 'traditional', such dance genres still bore the imprint of their individual composers.
Concerto Caledonia is one of Scotland's premiere earlymusic ensembles with a reputation for reviving littleknown but important music. With their third disc on Delphian the band bring vital part of Scotland's heritage to a wider audience with the music of 'Red Rob'.

Subcollection: Voices The double bass has always been close to Gavin Bryars' heart. His own instrument, it has also featured strongly in his music for other players - as in The Church Closest to the Sea, written for Mr McFall's Chamber and their bassist Rick Standley. Bryars' music straddles worlds: classical and jazz, composition and improvisation, the works on this disc moving between the lushly sensuous and the coolly laid-back as they meditate on geographical and emotional borderlands.
