Subkolektion: Violin This collaboration came about as Paul Dunmall had heard some of Roman Mints’ records and after meeting at a concert which they both did with Brian Irvine Ensemble, he invited him to record an album of improvisation with him. The album is named ‘Exodus’ because it is a departure from what Roman Mints was recording before, it is a ‘liberation’ in the way it is performed, all spontaneous with Roman using a lot of extending techniques including detuning the violin to expand the range. For thirty years Paul Dunmall has carved out a reputation for himself and is now widely recognized as one of the most uncompromising and talented reed players on the international jazz/improvised music scene. Whether playing in small groups or big bands his musical sensitivity and imagination combined with a powerful sound make him one of the most distinctive improvisers playing today.

Subkolektion: Violin Walton’s Violin Concerto was composed during a trip to Villa Cimbrone in Italy, where he was bitten by a tarantula. This is reflected in the second movement, based on a ‘tarantella’. The piece has endured as one of his most popular works and is contrasted here with Barber’s Violin Concerto and famous Adagio for Strings. Born in Hertfordshire and graduating from the masterclass of Bela Katona at Trinity College of Music in 1982, Thomas Bowes joined the London Philharmonic in 1985 and a year later the Academy of St Martin in the Fields. In 1987 he gave his London recital debut and between 1988 and 1992 was the founding leader of the Maggini String Quartet. In 1989 he was invited to become the leader of the London Mozart Players, London’s oldest established chamber orchestra, making his BBC Proms debut with them and Jane Glover in 1991. Still in great demand as a guest leader, Bowes has led many of the UK’s finest orchestras In demand as a guest leader, he has led many of the UK’s finest orchestras - including LSO, Philharmonia, London Sinfonietta, SCO and BBC Symphony Orchestra. The Malmö Opera Orchestra and Joseph Swensen join him for this recording. Swensen has served as Principal Conductor of Malmö Opera (Sweden) since 2007 and is Conductor Emeritus of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra. |

Subkolektion: Quartet The first CD of the Ying Quartet's acclaimed Life Music series. LifeMusic is a series of commissions from established or emerging American composers and each work draws on a different aspect of American life.
Life Music
We have undertaken a long-term project we call Life Music that connects the music we make with the American experience and issues of our time. With the support of the Institute of American Music, we commission two works per year, one from an established and one from an emerging composer. Each composer is asked to write a quartet that is inspired by some dimension of the American experience - perhaps a literary, historical or musical source or a significant and enduring issue. With these commissions, we seek to produce an ongoing series of works from living American composers that is not only inspired somehow by life in America, but also reflects the highest standards of musical excellence.
The idea of LifeMusic grows directly from the experience of the Ying Quartet. Our mission has always been twofold: to make classical music a relevant and vital part of American culture in all its diversity and to do so with the highest standards of artistic integrity. Whether we are performing in Carnegie Hall or the White House, teaching at the Eastman School of Music or spending a week in Helena, Montana, the Quartet is committed to exploring the many ways in which great music can impact and transform our daily lives. LifeMusic is intended to be suitable both in the concert hall and in community settings as an effective manifestation of that powerful connection between music and life.

Subkolektion: Cello Stradivarius is very proud to present Antonio Vivaldi’s masterpiece in a new recording. Il Tempio Armonico rediscovers the deepest essence of The Four Seasons with a performance based on the original manuscripts and carried out 'a parti reali', with arpa doppia and harpsichord as continuo. The outcome is a performance that succeeds in giving back the original freshness, charm and grace of Vivaldi’s masterpiece.
The CD is enriched by two other Concertos by Antonio Vivaldi: Concerto Madrigalesco RV129 and Concerto in C major RV114.
Since its foundation in 1999, Il Tempio Armonico, led by Alberto Rasi, aims for authenticity in performance practice and to re-create music's original appeal and vitality. The musicians of the ensemble are enriched by playing with numerous world-renowned groups and soloists including T. Koopman, J. Savall, M. Huggett and G. Carmignola. |

Kolektion: BaroqueSubkolektion: Violin These works for violin, basso continuo and solo harp, taken from the 17th century Italian repertoire are experimental and innovative, exploring the possibilities on the new solo instrument of the time: the violin. At the end of the 16th century the violin emerges as a solo instrument with its own documented repertoire. 'Sonata' and 'Canzona' were sometimes used with added descriptive titles like Marco Uccellini’s La Ebrea Marinata or Biagio Marini’s Sonata Per Sonar con due corde and Sonata variata, or with dedications like Giovanni Antonio Pandolfi-Mealli’s Sonata Quarta La Biancuccia to fellowmusician il Signor Biancucci. The ensemble ARPARLA takes its inspiration from a desire to speak through music ('parla' in Italian to 'speak'), using the soft and refined sonorities of the harp and the expressive range of colours of the violin, both instruments played with historical awareness. |
