Collection: Cello Collection Subcollection: Piano and CelloFirma Melodiya presents a solo album of one of the leading Rusuan cellists of today Alexander Rudin. Professor of the Moscow Conservatory, Alexander Rudin is among the best known performers, conductors and educationists of Europe. What makes the featured recordings particularly attractive is that they were made at the initial stage of the cellists performing career in 1978 to 1983. A student of the Gnessins Music Teachers Institute at the time, Rudin was a prize winner of the Tchaikovsky International Competition in Moscow, the Bach Competition in Leipzig and the Cassado Competition in Florence and drew attention of professional critics and wide audience. Even then the cellists performing style was notable for the scope and diversity of repertoire the album includes works by Giovanni Valentini, J.S. Bach, Ludwig van Beethoven, Nikolai Myaskovsky and Julius Klengel. The piano part is performed by Lidiya Yevgrafova and Viktor Ginzburg.

Collection: Cello Collection Matthew Barley launches his new CD, Constant Filter, of John Metcalfe compositions - many of them premiered tonight. Prepare to be amazed at what the electric cello can do, retaining the soulful beauty of the classical cello but with kaleidoscopic extra dimensions of colour and voice created by cutting-edge music technology. Includes works for acoustic cello and piano with rising star Ashley Wass, as well as new transcriptions of some of Schumann's most poignant and perfect songs. While Metcalfe's music is often characterised by grooving rhythms, Schumann's songs are always flexible and breathing - an unlikely and beautiful contrast. |

Collection: Cello Collection Subcollection: Cello and Symphony OrchestraThe cello concertos of Elgar and Myaskovsky written in 1919 and 1944 respectively, engender few similarities these days but make an exciting coupling due not only to the disparate nature of the composers’ lives and situations, but also to the common ground they tread; both composers were in their early sixties when writing their main work for the instrument.
A stunning performance by Jamie Walton, accompanied by the magnificent Philharmonia Orchestra.
Jamie has enjoyed success as a rising international soloist and has given concerts in some of the most prestigious concert halls in the world. He appears regularly at the Wigmore Hall and Symphony Hall, Birmingham and has performed with leading orchestras such as the Vienna Chamber Orchestra and the Philharmonia Orchestra. |

Collection: Cello Collection Subcollection: CelloJamie Walton's latest venture with the Philharmonia Orchestra, led by Alexander Briger, covers two more-contemporary Cello works; Shostakovichʼs Cello Concerto No. 2, and Britten's Symphony for Cello and Orchestra. Jamie Walton is quickly gaining international recognition for his work, being compared to Cello legends Rostropovich and Tortelier.
The Elgar society wrote about Jamie's last disc
“I really cannot praise this performance too highly. For faithfulness to the text, interpretative musicality, accuracy, ensemble and warmth and beauty of tone, Walton cannot be beaten.”
This new disc promises to be every bit as good. |

Collection: Cello Collection Subcollection: CelloJamie Walton is a rising international soloist with a distinctive voice of his own. Renowned for his purity of tone and uncompromising nature, Jamie is now being compared by critics to some of the great cellists of the past. He and pianist Daniel Grimwood appear regularly at Wigmore Hall and Symphony Hall, Birmingham. They have also appeared in recital at the Bridgewater Hall, Fairfield Hall, Cadogan Hall and St John’s, Smith Square as well as at the Chateauville Foundation, Virginia - a personal invite from Maestro Lorin Maazel.
