Whatever our personal definition of contemporary World Music might be, there is a grey area where it blends into popular music. What for one listener is ethnic music - a label often dictated by the language in which the song is sung - for another listener it is familiar native music, evoking home.
Casa Italia is just that, an Italian home, wherever you might hear it, wherever you call home, whenever your thoughts turn to contemporary Italy.
Casa Italia presents an up-to-date musical map of Italy, with leading artists performing music that celebrates the rich and unique palate of distinct cultures of the country's regions.
The expressive voice of Consiglia Licciardi contrasted with plaintive saxophone transports you to the Campania region and the Mediterranean while "Ape Regina" of Andrea Donati puts you at the center of a Milanese jazz club.
The journey includes an exploration of the migrant, rhythmic trails of Naples as interpreted by native artists such as the Avion Travel, Nuova Compagnia di Canto Popolare, Almamegretta and Daniele Sepe.
Fratelli Mancuso guide the listener through the lost paths of Sicily, while the avant-garde Agricantus fuse southern traditions with eastern-influenced trance sounds.
Sardinian guitarist Marino De Rosas presents a touching acoustic portrait of his native island, and Faraualla, the female vocal ensemble of Pulia, creates a polyphonic atmosphere that sounds at once both traditional and futuristic.
Italian bard Vinicio Capossela relates a rock-tinged tarantella.
The collection of contemporary Italian artists blends traditional Mediterranean song-elements with electronica. Its innovative combination of ethnic influences and modern rhythmic styles make the album a must for enthusiasts of Italian culture who are looking for new expressions in music and art.
Casa Italia is a soundtrack to excursions to Italy, whether your excursion is a glass of Chianti in your own home, pasta with friends or simply an imagined view from any room's window.

Kolektion: World MusicSubkolektion: Ethno Kontômè (spirits) is an inspiring collection of some of Gabin Dabirés most alluring poetry, which, in accordance with his West African tradition, is integrated within a musical setting.
The engaging songs and charismatic vocals in this recording feature several new gems to delight the heart.
A beautiful song album of a great living African musician. Simple, profound and direct.
The Kontômè are idols that every household keeps in the same room as the altar. These icons represent the ancestral spirits, the guiding light of the family and society as a whole. These idols belong to the religious traditions of the Dagara tribe, an ethnic group native to Burkina Faso.
The Kontômè light our path throughout the course of our lives. We pray to them, we ask their advice and we thank them for what we are and what we have, now and in the future. In return, they help us as our destiny unfolds.
Therefore, through this small musical work, I thank my Kontômè and everyone else who, with infinite patience and determination, cooperated in the realization of this project.

Subkolektion: Flute Orchestra da Camera Fiorentina, Conductor: Antonio Rossi
This tribute, inspired by James Redfield's bestseller, The Celestine Prophecy, comprises ten movements featuring Andrea Ceccomori on flute, supported by the Orchestra da Camera Fiorentina.
The beautiful melodies are hauntingly romantic, evoking the intimate and mysterious soul of Gaia.
Lyrical flute lines are delicately woven into warm orchestral textures whose variations flow, soar and spiral until they reach heights of passion and majesty.
A feeling of deep emotional tranquillity pervades, like a stream which tumbles and cascades through virgin forests without ever losing, for a moment, its sense of flow or purpose; as if the little stream already knew the ocean that awaits it.
The energy behind the creation of this work guides us gently back to a compassionate space where we may once again breathe freely in the remembrance of our own primordial nature. |

After selling over 150,000 copies abroad, here it is at last in Italy: the controversial "cult" disc of the Mafia's music which traces the origins of the criminal tradition through a repertoire of lyrics from the past that express an old Mafia with a code of honour that no longer exists.
Mimmo Siclari is the scholar and musician who has sought out these old songs of the 'ndrangheta throughout Calabria and has been recording them since the Seventies.
This first volume of the trilogy, SONGS OF THE UNDERWORLD, produced by the Calabrian scholar and photographer, Francesco Sbano, is a collection of eighteen dramatic songs which relate stories of blood, honour and "omertà", showing the old code of the 'ndrangheta and the behaviour of the associates.
This disc is a very important historical document which encourages us to think about the roots of a phenomenon and the current situation in Calabria, as well as being a means of preserving our country's heritage of popular culture.
It also acts as a starting point for reflection upon the phenomenon of the Mafia and of the 'ndranghetta , because it is only by understanding the phenomenon, through to its most secret rites, that we can really free ourselves from it.
"Drink to your friends' health, drink up, because on the 5th December the most trendy and cool cd will be arriving in all the best music stores: "The song of the underworld" or "The music of the Mafia".
It's a real cult disc, produced with an anthropologist's flair by Francesco Sbano and Maximilian Dax: the cd has been a success in Germany and France where it has been on sale since last year and arrives in Italy in perfect time for the next Sanremo Music Festival directed by Tony Renis (...)"
