Moscow State Conservatory presents

«Gleb Akselrod is one of the brighlest and most gifted pianists whose artistic development fell on the fifties. He already showed himself to be a serious musician of great ability as a virtuoso when he was still a conservatory student under Professor G. R. Ginzburg», wrote Lev Nikolayevich Oborin.

Akselrod graduated from the Moscow Conservatory in 1948 and completed a post-graduate course in 1951. Already at the beginning of his artistic career the pianist won wide recognition. He was a great success at a number of important international competitions - the B. Smetana Competition in Prague, the M. Long Competition in Paris, the Viana da Mota Competition in Lisbon. Since this time Gleb Akselrod, Merited Artist of the RSFSR and Professor of Moscow Conservatory, has been combining teaching and intensive concert activity in the USSR and abroad. «G. Akselrod is a musician with broad outlook, he feels and understands keenly the style and form of quite different musical works», said Yakov Vladimirovich Fliere. This opinion is supported by Akselrod’s interpretation of Russian and modern music (Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninov, Prokofiev, Shostakovich, Shchedrin, Galynin), works by foreign composers (D. Scarlatti, Beethoven, Brahms, Liszt, Debussy).

Giovanni Bottesini - Works for double-bass and piano. F. Siragusa, R. Paruzzo

Giovanni Paolo Bottesini, was the greatest double bass virtuoso in the history of music. This recording confirms the brillant success Francesco Siragusa earned in the famous Bottesini competition. His musical talent is clearly expressed and his technique is not self serving, but advances him to unquestionably valid music horizons. Siragusa interprets Bottesini following the best Italian tradition by giving great care to the sound and phrasing.
It is noteworthy the care that Siragusa gives to details while interpreting Bottesini's music.

Pietro Domenico Paradies - Sonate di Gravicembalo (1754) , F.E. Ravizza, harpsichord

This recording is the first volume of the complete harpsychord works composed by Paradisi in London in 1754.

"From a harmonic, melodic and rhythmic point of view, these sonatas demonstrate the strong influence the Neapolitan School had on his style.
As is well known, this school produced not only important composers of operas, but also prominent harpsichordists. These are scholarly, refined masterpieces of considerable technical mastery demonstrating a real sense of the instrument's tone as well as a profound understanding of the instrument's sound quality.
In particular, the first movement of the Sonata I (Allegro) has a tripartite structure and monothematic form, which is clearly organized, coherent, well balanced and efficient. As is also true of the sonatas that follow, the rhythm - both pulsating and harmonic, the structure of the melody, the tonal connections and the cadence, constantly accompany and intensify the elegant phrasing. The piece is brilliant, even though cantabile and not immune to stylistic influences either of opera or typically instrumental music. The later bring to mind Alessandro Scarlatti's toccata-style works, the sonatas of his son, Domenico and other Neapolitan composers such as Francesco Durante and Nicola Porpora. As expected and as can be verified in the compositions that follow, the use of particular tonal effects is especially efficacious thanks to the attentive distribution of the parts, a varied and interesting texture and a spacing and articulation of the notes perfectly suited to the expressive capabilities of the harpsichord. All of which is integrated in a refined and sophisticated concept of the technique for keyboard instruments."
