Our recognition and numbering of his symphonies will need to be re-evaluated when an additional work is taken into account, the four-movement choral symphony Die Tagenzeiten where he blithely referred to as a concertante. |

This selection includes early songs by Sjögren, most of them published during the period 1876-84. It was in the neighbouring countries to his native Sweden that Sjögren could find a blossoming of lyric poetry to set to music; fresh nature images were often combined with depictions of human situations. His piano parts became increasingly eloquent and varied, making their own contribution to the interpretation of the texts. |

The composers Edvard Grieg, Jean Sibelius and Ingvar Lidholm all wrote music for cello and piano. The works were all composed during various stages of the composers lives, and reflect in different ways, traditions, influences and new tendencies in Nordic music and the developments between 1867 and 1955. What they all had in common was leaving the Nordic countries for the continent at various stages in their lives for studies, concerts or inspiration. On these travels they met early the great persons of the day in music, art and literature. There they experienced the different tendencies that grew during the last part of the 19th century and the first part of the 20th century and they brought home these experiences. |

Here is the first Mexican romantic! We hope there will be more soon. Ponce was very romantic early in his carriere, which is obvious from the first piano concerto, which is very traditional romantic music, with its lush orchestral and pianist writing. Then he became more modern, and also more influenced by folk music. It is a truly fascinating blend which is obvious from the very first piece, with its very suggestive introduction. Then follows the very romantic first piano concerto, stormy with a dreamlike second movement. Then the more modern second piano concerto (unfinished) and finally some colourful piano pieces.
