Subkolektion: Voices AMOR VINCIT -- “Love conquers” or, to quote the full verse, Omnia vincit amor, nos et cedamus amori, “Love conquers all, let us too yield to love” (Vergil, 70 BC - 19 BC, Eclogae 10.69).
Today, these words by Vergil are as inspiring as ever, witness the 277,000 hits they yield when used as a search term in Google. Referring to such diverse cultural manifestations
as a painting by Caravaggio, a chamber choir, a song by Deep Purple, the title of a movie, these universal words clearly express an essential part of our daily experience. Anne and Caroline now contribute the music of their choice. Does it speak of the eternal love of music? The love of their intense teamwork? Your love as a listener? The present selection of songs is a result of the combined tastes of the performers, weighing notes and words, contrast and intensity. |

Kolektion: BaroqueThis CD couples two early Baroque vocal works that typify the new style that was emerging in Italy in the early 1600's. Combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda is Monteverdi's madrigal setting of Tasso's epic poem, take full advantage of the drama inherent in the text. Carissimi's Jeptha sets the Biblical story to music, anticipating the sacred cantatas that were to flourish later in the Baroque.

Kolektion: Sacred MusicSubkolektion: Choir Without doubt, Monteverdi was the greatest of the early baroque European composers. He revolutionised the music of the theatre and the church by his dramatic and imaginative use of voices and instruments and by his daring harmonies and rhythms. Next to his Vespers of 1610, the Selva morale e spirituale of 1641 is his most significant and virtuosic collection of sacred music. Over the next few years we intend to record the complete publication with a variety of forces. His much performed Beatus vir is a mere appetiser for this delightful yet thrilling music.

Kolektion: BaroqueSubkolektion: Choir The CD includes works by famous composers from the epoch of late-Renaissance and Baroque. Claudio Monteverdi, the creator of the first important operas in the history of Europe's art of music, is represented by eight works. The songs and the psalms performed by the Sofia Madrigal Choir, specialised in the interpretation of Renaissance and Baroque music, demonstrate not only Monteverdi's exceptional ability to develop polyphonic compositions but also his mastery of the new emotional style strongly influenced by Italian folklore. Secular or sacred, these works are imbued with a sincere emotion and with the humanistic spirit of the time. They demonstrate a new attitude towards the text set to music and the melodic invention of Monteverdi, who lived and worked in the second half of the 16th and the first half of the 17th centuries. Carlo Gesulado, his near contemporary, also created models of madrigal art, sparkling with creative wit and invention, featuring virtuosity and poetry. And next to them ranks the German composer Heinrich Schutz, who laid the foundations of the Baroque style in German music. He is the author of many remarkable sacred works - passions, masses, madrigals, an opera, one ballet, vocal and instrumental opuses. The CD contains some of his secular songs, admirable for their melodiousness and beautiful vocal texture.
