The young performers Georgy Valtchev and Lora Tchekoratova present an interesting programme with works by Bartok.
Born in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, Georgy Valtchev studied the violin under Boyanka Shopova, Vladimir Vladigerov, Mitcho Dimitrov and Prof. Dora Ivanova. In the United States he continues his studies at the Julliard School as a student of Dorothy Delay and Masao Kawasaki. He achieved his first international success at age sixteen when he won the Grand Prize of the "Kocian" International Violin Competition in then Czechoslovakia. He has been honoured with a number of awards, among them the First Prize of the Ducrest International Competition in Lafayette, Louisiana, and the Special Prize of the Tibor Varga International Violin Competition in Switzerland.
Lora Tchekoratova began her piano studies in Sofia as a pupil of the legendary piano pedagogue Lydia Kuteva. Later she studied with Vessela Marinova and Prof. Jenny Zaharieva. In 1992, she moved to the United States and become the first Bulgarian musician to hold a Doctorate from Juilliard as a student of Seymour Lipkin. She won numerous awards at international competitions, including the first prize of the 1996 Washington International Competition for Pianists. Her solo debut was at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.
Although they perform as soloists on their own, Lora Tchekoratova and Georgy Valtchev often appear together in performances in the USA and in many countries throughout Europe and Asia. Along with the traditional repertoire for violin and piano, they also perform works by 20th century composers.

Recorded at Patrych Sound Studios, Bronx, New York in December 2006 and January 2007

ROMANTIC MUSIC FOR CELLO AND PIANO

ROMANTIC MUSIC FOR CELLO AND PIANO
ID: GD346
CDs: 1
Type: CD
Collection: Instrumental
Subcollection: Piano and Cello

Diliana Momtchilova and Lora Tchekoratova have recorded a very interesting programme. They have chosen famous virtuosic works, some of them composed initially for violin and guitar (piano) - Paganini’s Variations, or for violin and piano - Vladigerov’s Song (actually this is the second part of Bulgarian Suite for orchestra, which was later arranged for violin and piano), or for the six-stringed instrument arpeggione - Schubert’s Sonata. The other two compositions are the original versions for cello and piano. When writing the title to his work, Brahms intentionally puts the piano before the cello, thus stressing on the equal role of the piano instrument.
Diliana Momtchilova and Lora Tchekoratova were born in Sofia. They both received their high-school education at the Lyubomir Pipkov National Music School in Sofia. In Bulgaria they studied with eminent teachers and after that they continued their studies at the Juilliard School in the USA.
Diliana Momtchilova holds Master’s and Doctoral degrees from the Juilliard School. Her principal teachers in New York were Zara Nelsova and Harvey Shapiro. She has participated in master classes led by Janos Starker, Julius Berger, Angelica May, and the Principal cellists of the New York Philharmonic Carter Brey, and Lorne Monroe.
Lora Tchekoratova, as a student of Seymour Lipkin, earned Bachelor, Master, and Doctor of Musical Arts Degrees thus becoming the first Bulgarian musician to hold a Doctorate from Juilliard.
Both performers have won many awards at prestigious international competitions. They perform in famous venues in the USA and Europe as soloists and chamber musicians, as well as with symphony orchestras.
