The works are also a perfect choice for surround sound since the French horn is the only instrument that directs most of its sound energy away from the front of the orchestra - thus resulting in more reflectance off surfaces in the hall and more of a surrounding effect.”
---John Sunier, Audiophile Audition (March 2003)
“As played by Neville Marriner and the Academy of St. Martin's with Alan Civil as the soloist, with optimal spatial quality and resolution in the sonic soundstage, these lovely, gracious performances are all that one could possibly wish (and yes, I know all about Dennis Brain, thank you).”
---Dr. Phil Muse, Classik Reviws (May 2003)
“We have almost all Pentatone RQR discs. Acoustically, this is the best one. It is also the most natural surround recording in all our collection. The original analogue quadro recording is warm and full of detail, and the space is literally palpable. DSD MC transfer was made without any interference from the original 4 channel tape to a stunning effect.
The playing is superb, solo horn focused and warm. It’s difficult to say more, as this is such a perfect recording. Go for it, especially if you listen to your music in surround!”
