Kolekce: Cello CollectionPodkolekce: Cello and Symphony Orchestra The cello concertos of Elgar and Myaskovsky written in 1919 and 1944 respectively, engender few similarities these days but make an exciting coupling due not only to the disparate nature of the composers’ lives and situations, but also to the common ground they tread; both composers were in their early sixties when writing their main work for the instrument.
A stunning performance by Jamie Walton, accompanied by the magnificent Philharmonia Orchestra.
Jamie has enjoyed success as a rising international soloist and has given concerts in some of the most prestigious concert halls in the world. He appears regularly at the Wigmore Hall and Symphony Hall, Birmingham and has performed with leading orchestras such as the Vienna Chamber Orchestra and the Philharmonia Orchestra. |

Kolekce: Cello CollectionPodkolekce: Cello Jamie Walton's latest venture with the Philharmonia Orchestra, led by Alexander Briger, covers two more-contemporary Cello works; Shostakovichʼs Cello Concerto No. 2, and Britten's Symphony for Cello and Orchestra. Jamie Walton is quickly gaining international recognition for his work, being compared to Cello legends Rostropovich and Tortelier.
The Elgar society wrote about Jamie's last disc
“I really cannot praise this performance too highly. For faithfulness to the text, interpretative musicality, accuracy, ensemble and warmth and beauty of tone, Walton cannot be beaten.”
This new disc promises to be every bit as good. |

This disc completes an Anglo-Russian trilogy of recordings by Jamie with this orchestra and conductor, proceed by pairings of Elgar & Myaskovsky (Cello Concertos - SIGCD116), and Britten & Shostakovich (Cello Symphony & Cello Concerto No.2 - SIGCD137). Both discs were released to great critical acclaim:Elgar & Myaskovsky (SIGCD116) |

Kolekce: Cello CollectionPodkolekce: Cello Jamie Walton is a rising international soloist with a distinctive voice of his own. Renowned for his purity of tone and uncompromising nature, Jamie is now being compared by critics to some of the great cellists of the past. He and pianist Daniel Grimwood appear regularly at Wigmore Hall and Symphony Hall, Birmingham. They have also appeared in recital at the Bridgewater Hall, Fairfield Hall, Cadogan Hall and St John’s, Smith Square as well as at the Chateauville Foundation, Virginia - a personal invite from Maestro Lorin Maazel.
This is Jamie’s third release with Signum Classics. His previous releases have been received with unanimous international acclaim and there is little doubt that this latest release will be as successful. |

Kolekce: Chamber MusicPodkolekce: Piano and Cello Two works from very different composers: Chopin’s works for cello were few and far between, but these two straddle his compositional life: the Introduction and Polonaise was written in 1829 when he was just 19, and the cello sonata in (1845-6) is his last work published during his lifetime (all latter works with opus numbers being published posthumously, against his wishes). In contrast, Saint-Saëns published a great many works for the cello (as well as works in almost every genre of the classical canon), with the Cello Sonata No.2 composed during his travels in Biskra, Algeria.
Jamie Walton and Daniel Grimwood are performers who have proven themselves in both concert and recordings such as these to be formidable and enthralling interpreters of the classical canon. This release follows their previous duo disc of Rachmaninov and Grieg cello sonatas (SIGCD172). |

Kolekce: Cello CollectionPodkolekce: Cello The F major ’cello/piano Strauss sonata belongs to his youthand, together with the Eb violin sonata of a few years later, is amanifestation of adolescent high spirits. (For this reason it was hightime we committed this to disc sooner rather than later.) His fatherFranz was a horn player in the Munich Opera Orchestra and hismother was an heiress of a famous brewing family so it was throughhis father he grew up steeped in the prevailing musical atmosphere.Franz Strauss was a musical conservative and this, perhaps, is whyhis son’s early works adhere so strongly to classical compositionalprocedure. Despite the obvious influences of Mendelssohn, andespecially Brahms, there is nonetheless an individual voice fromthe outset characterized by a fleetness of touch and sense of thetheatrical which pre-echo his astonishing achievements in the fieldof Opera. |

Joining several discs from Signum celebrating 2013's Britten Centenary Year comes a new collection of the three Suites for Solo Cello, performed by star UK cellist Jamie Walton. Recorded in the Britten Studio at Snape Maltings, Aldeburgh, the three suites were dedicated to Mstislav Rostropovich, with the passionate third in particular inspired by Rostropovich’s rich and romantic performances of Bach’s unaccompanied suites.
Jamie Walton has established a reputation as a performer who deeply engages with the works he performs and records. Earlier this year he released a new recording of cello concertos by Schumann and Dvorak with the Philharmonia Orchestra under Vladimir Ashkenazy. |
