| Sein Leben:
There are very few composers who have contributed as much to modern music in Austria as has Friedrich Cerha. Since the post-war era he is regarded as the leader figure in a comprehensive renewal of Austrian composing styles.
His seven-part orchestral work "Spiegel", was first performed in Graz in 1972. His solo concerts and works for chamber orchestra as well as his chamber music and the finishing of Alban Berg's opera "Lulu", have established Friedrich Cerha's eminent position in the Austrian music scene.
In establishing "die reihe" (see HK Gruber) in 1958, Friedrich Cerha confronted audiences for the first time with performances of works by the "Zweite Wiener Schule".

I have always regarded Friedrich Cerha as one of the most important personalities of his generation. I have followed his composing with great interest whenever I had the opportunity to listen to a work or read it during its creation. I am delighted that an album has now appeared which makes it possible to get an impression of his music’s remarkable development. I hope that this will serve to create an awareness of his true significance.

Cambreling, was one of the highlights of the ensemble’s 25th-anniversary season.
Cerha’s "Bagatelles" for string trio belong to the most difficult pieces in the repertoire and are of a quality equalled only by the trio works of Beethoven, by Schönberg’s op. 45 and by the 1987 piece Ikhoor by Iannis Xenakis.
His orchestral work "Instants", commissioned by broadcaster WDR and premièred in Cologne in 2010, can already be counted among the strongest orchestral emanations of the 21st century’s second decade.
