S. Bach's The Art of Fugue….. For this performance, Neville Marriner and Andrew Davis prepared an edition for 2 violins, viola, cello, violone, oboe, cor anglais, bassoon, organ, and 2 harpsichords…. This performance eschews any scholarly attempt to "complete" Bach's magnum opus for him, allowing the final fugue to peter out just before the third subject, based on the name BACH (B-flat, A. C, B-natural in German notation), is combined with the other two. As often as I've heard it, this moment of sudden silence is so striking it's eerie in its emotional impact!”
