Powerplant encompasses the work of some of the most dynamic young British artists, bringing together the virtuoso percussionist Joby Burgess and live sound engineer Matthew Fairclouch. The musical duo are joined by visual artist Kathy Hinde, creating experimental and challenging repertoire, which includes a video of their combined imaginations.

The repertoire also includes a new take on Steve Reich's Electric Counterpoint, first commissioned in 1987 for guitarist Pat Metheny, placing the percussionist against a pre-recorded tape of himself. The pieces by Kraftwerk, widely acknowledged as the pioneers of modern dance music, also feature highly on this disc with arrangements for string quartet and a variety of percussive and electronic instruments.

This disc is an Enhanced CD, and features a short video performance that can be viewed when using the disc in a computer.

Charles Ramirez is a guitarist of rare skill. A preeminent performer in the generation of guitarists that followed Segovia, he has held the post of Professor of Guitar at the Royal College of Music since the age of 25, raising the profile of the instrument through his concerts and education activities since mid-1970s.

This disc is the first in a new series of recordings featuring Charles Ramirez and sees him perform works by Joaquín Rodrigo with the Chamber Orchestra of Europe - the Concierto de Aranjuez and Fantasia para un gentilhombre - under conductor and founding member of the orchestra Douglas Boyd. The Gliere Harp Concerto has always been a favourite among harp enthusiasts: written in the 1930s, the work’s stylistic features are reminiscent of the Viennese classical style united with Russian romantic nationalism.
This disc highlights the extraordinary talent of the Official Harpist to H.R.H. the Prince of Wales, Claire Jones. She is joined by renowned flautist William Bennet OBE, and the English Chamber Orchestra to complete the release with Mozart’s Concerto for flute, harp and Orchestra and Debussy’s Danses pour Harpe Chromatique. Claire has performed for members of the Royal Family on more then 70 occasions and recently premiered a brand new Royal Commission by Patrick Hawes at Highgrove House with the Philharmonia. She is also featured on a new release with the National Youth Choir of Scotland, performing Britten’s A Ceremony of Carols (released on September 20 SIGCD228).
Patrick Hawes' Highgrove documentary is broadcast on 23rd September on BBC2. It is all about the writing of his piece The Highgrove Suite which is due out on Classic FM next month, guaranteeing good exposure for Patrick and Claire Jones.
